2023-07-09(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German (SS) winThis one is tough to lose as the Germans IF you keep moving. In a game with lots of ASL craziness, I scraped out a win. Jim's setup ruled out a push along the west board edge, so I went at building S7 then swung west into the woods and big grainfield along the board boundary. I sent two squads toward the 33O5 orchard as a feint. S7 fell quickly so it became a fight for AA10 and BB8. Jim's defense was aggressive especially the KVs. It came down to CC in 44BB10 and AA10. Every melee was critical. My sniper wounded two SMC and broke two MMC while Jim's managed only a MMC break and 2 pins until it recalled a PzIII on the last turn. Jim: Variable VP are a big + for the Germans but time is on the Russians' side. A timid attacker will lose. I put the 45LLs on the east edge of my defense and they killed a Tiger before being overwhelmed. One squad and dummies in S7 didn't slow Vic down enough, and a second red chit in my turn 3 really hurt as did a PzIII killing KVs with APCR. I needed more than the one CR in CC I got but it was still v. close and tense w/ v. high replay value.
2023-04-22(A) Paul Works vs Rob Wirthlin Russian win
2023-04-21(D) Craig Renier vs Joe Celebuski Russian winThe Germans entered with the obvious goal of capturing the three buildings on Board 44. The attackers pushed forward aggressively with two forces, one in the center and one on the left. Poor results on morale checks hampered both sides, despite the high morale of the SS troops and Russian Guards. The Russian OBA was inaccurate, despite the pre-registered hex, resulting in only modest effect. Radio contact was subsequently lost and then when regained, a red card was drawn. OBA ended up having little impact. What did have an impact was two snake eye rolls on the IFT which eliminated 2 full German squads and two snake eye rolls on the TH eliminating an AFV and a HT with a MMC and SMC. Plus, a desperate CC Reaction Fire with street fighting eliminated another German AFV. The Germans had made significant progress through Turn 3, but the heavy losses made it clear there were not enough units remaining to wrest control of all three buildings.
2022-12-16(D) Dave Mareske vs Craig Renier Russian winSecond game in the campaign installment facing Craig's Germans. While the Russians won the scenario it was not without cost. The Germans lost one Tiger to a 45LL when it drove through its hex and scoring a lucky rear shot. The other German 75Ls did great scoring three CHs on three KVs. However, the German advance stalled and the attack pivoted bringing the whole force against my 9-2, two 4-5-8s and an ATR. They would eventually surrender scoring some good CVPs for the Germans. This sets the stage for the Showdown and the Germans will be going first.
2022-09-22(D) Scott Sherer vs Jeff B German (SS) winGreat description by Jeff of a fun and enjoyable game!
