Overview:

Since November 1944, tension had been on the rise between the Japanese occupation troops and the Indochina government. French and Japanese troops were spread all over the country and their positions intertwined. As early as the end of February, the French intelligence service uncovered a plan for a general attack over the whole of Indochina at the end of the Tet celebrations. But the administration remained unconcerned and, when the French garrisons were attacked at 2015 on 9 March, surprise was total.

2020-10-11(D) Scott Fischbein vs Carl Nogueira Japanese winPlayed a rematch with Carl after discovering we had made a mistake with the building location control rules (controlling a building does not control all locations within, and since mopping up is NA, the Japanese must march through every hex they want to control...). I actually enjoyed the scenario more the first time - having to march through each location, up and down all those stairs... seemed kind of silly and created a huge mess of control counters everywhere (even playing on VASL, can't even imagine what it would look like on the board!) Still, it was fun to get another game in with Carl and made for an interesting puzzle for the attacker at least. Learned some good lessons about the deadliness of Japanese CC!
2020-10-10(D) Scott Fischbein vs Carl Nogueira Japanese winAnother excellent vASLOK game. Carl initiated lots of CCs (including one round that had 6 of them happening at once) and his Japanese troops were not as stealthy as they're alleged to be, so things were looking pretty good for the French for a while, but the heavy rain made it hard to amass CVP and in the end they couldn't get the job done. Great game with a great opponent!
2020-10-10(A) Andy Beaton vs Robert Hammond French winFrench had brutal dice on turn 1, meaning I was taking KIA's instead of striping and more importantly putting me back a turn. The mortars never managed a smoke round, and I think I only broke one French squad all game. Losing too many 1st line guys meant I was trying to ambush the French with 2nd line guys, and ended up losing as many as I killed. I couldn't get the French out of key buildings meaning I couldn't mop up and claim the locations I needed and conceded at the end of turn 4.
2020-07-14(A) wayne baumber vs Joel French winAs is often the case with the Japanese as one of the combatants this was a wild and wacky game. As the Japanese player I was possibly too cautious on GT1, leading to rash moves later in the game. The Japanese hit the CVP cap during GT4. However we had lots of pure ASL moments in this one, the French sniper did a sterling job pinning enemy squads, the French tanks malfunctioned on his first shot but still chugged up and down the road trying to overrun Japanese mortar crews and very fitting that the final kill was on 2 (-2) shot Joel rolled a three for a 1 KIA and then rolled doubles on the random selection, A perfect ending to this fracas.
