Panzer-Regiment 5 and Panzer-Grenadier Regiment 104 swung further east to Point 102 in an attempt to find the weak spots that DAK intelligence told them existed. They hoped to break through to the British supply lines and force the 22nd Armored Brigade between the hammer and the anvil of the 21st Panzer Division. This would at least force the 22nd's "Pip" Roberts to react, and bring the battle into the open desert. -- Scenario 3 of 3 in the Line In The Sand mini-campaign.

My attack plan was bad. Doug's defence plan was good. Interesting match-up. I would play it again.

German win
British hid and waited for the Germans to come to me. The Germans calculated what they could afford to loose and still win and hid behind the burning wreck smoke, forcing the British on the offensive near games end. We did not play with the errata, but it would not have made a difference in the end. Rommel outwitted Montgomery.

German win
Played as a single scenario so Force composition was randomly drawn. Both sides received FB/Stukas with bombs. Stukas arrived first and took out a moving Grant with MG (fortunately during a predesignated bomb run so the bomb was wasted). The other bomb was a near miss that had no effect on the tank. My FBs did not arrive until the last turn, missed a halftrack with both bombs but shot down 1 Stuka with dog fighting. The halftrack was the decider with Germans winning 48 to 44 VP. I also had one Crusader recalled with disabled MA which could have given me the win if he was still on board.

British win
I won this as the British. I purchased the 2 25 pounders and I placed them in a 'hedgehog ' position with the infantry platoon near the west edge of board 28. I entered my turn 1 armor in a large formation from the north edge of board 29, and subsequently crushed the DAK attacking force against my infantry/artillery position to the southeast. The red TH#'s for the Grants and Stuart's certainly made things difficult for the British, and I would strongly recommend that the Crusader III's be selected over the Grants for the starting OB. The 25 pounders were the most effective weapons in the game, especially against the German armor.

German win
Turned into trench warfare with hull down tanks sniping at each other from wadis. British need to be more aggressive than I was, and long range fire with dust and red numbers is tricky.
I quickly moved the German vehicles down to the wadis, risking bog but with success. With all the tanks hull down inside the wadis, the British did the same and we started sniping each other. We both had plane OBAs but they were quite ineffective. As we did more or less the same damage and the British needed to be agressive, the Germans won. Interesting to learn how to use wadis.
