Overview:

944: After their dreadful ascent the British were now furiously digging in at the square wood. Their shovels were no match for the tangle of roots and the German mortar shells and counterattacks (which were designed to keep them from entrenching). Major Roberts set up his command in the ditch that ran through the middle of the wood. Six and seventeen pounder AT guns were brought up and all armor was recalled. The British doctrine states that "Tanks don't fight at night". At this moment German heavy armor was assembling in Esquay and St. Martin and two companies of the 9th SS were creeping up the southern slopes. Their objective was the Kastenwaldchen.
Attacker: German (SS) (5th Battalion, 10th Panzer Regiment, 10th SS Panzer Division)
Defender: British (A and B Companies, 5th Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, 43rd Wessex Division)
