"Assistance Arrives" . . .At dawn on 17 January, 1945, Armerican forces launched yet another attack to clear Rittershoffen. The attack gained some ground and in the process captured regimental and battalion staff from the 25th Panzergrenadier Division, which had been refitting in the area. Oberstleutnant Hans von Luck received the distress call and dispatched a kampfgruppe consisting of reconnaisance troops and some fallschirmjagers who had recently arrived in the area. The counterattack caught the Americans consolidating and reorganizing on their objectives.Attacker: German (Abteilung 21, Panzer Division 21 and Fallschirmjäger Division 7)
