Overview:

After nearly 12 hours, the 100th Battalion had been trapped in the small village of Biffontaine. Late in the day, the regimental headquarter's final radio contact with the 100th. The message came as such: "Nearly out of supplies, our rear is cut off. The 100th will have to throw stones if we don't get any ammo." Regimental command quickly scrapped together the 100th's reserve platoon, some spare cooks and some newly refitted tankers led by a Captain Felber. The supply train traveled through the hills and woods just west of Biffontaine, for the only route out.
