Overview:

The 2nd Guards Mechanized Corps was slowly closing in on the Hungarian final defensive perimeter around Buda. After some very hard fighting, the Soviet 180th Rifle Division seized the Városmajor Grange. Hungarian forces launched a counterattack to stem the Russian tide and regain some key terrain. Supported by Tibor Ratz’s remaining Zrinyi assault guns, the Royal Vannay Flying Squad Battalion attacked the Russians holding Városmajor Grange.

2023-07-30(D) nathan wegener vs James Treu Russian winGood scenario but this was a short playing - early 4 -1 shot took out Hungarian 3 squad stack including the FT. STL2023

2022-11-28(D) Andy Bagley vs Luca Martini Hungarian (Vannay)/Hungarian winInteresting scenario; the Russians look hopelessly outnumbered but the Hungarians have limited time and a lot of ground to cover. I still like my plan as the Russians, which was to defend the southern victory building quite lightly but make it look well-defended, then move as many squads as I could from south to north to hold the other buildings. Luck wasn't with me though, and only a couple of defenders made it north, although quite a few Hungarians were tied up in the south early on.
One problem for the Russians is the Hungarian Hetzer; the T34's main gun can't scratch its front armour even with APCR. So my T34-43 was dodging around trying to avoid it, while the FT tank tried to come in from the rear, but fell to a snakeyes roll from a bounding fire shot. A further snakeyes roll broke my 9-1 leader and squad with the HMG, at which point the odds were heavily against me.
I had a bit of luck later when my sniper killed his 9-2 leader and my T34-43 got a Zrinyi Assault Gun, but it was too little too late. The Hungarian hordes charged north and although it went to the last CC phase, the result wasn't really in doubt. Well played by my opponent though, using all of his available resources.
2021-06-20(A) nathan wegener vs John Garlic Hungarian (Vannay)/Hungarian winPushed hard along a broad front mostly coming on from the south. Solid defense but my FT brought lots of fuel and knocked back hard point after hard point. The Z’s didnt do much but threaten and the Hetzer got both Russian tanks. Once the FT was down the Russian D collapsed. TTT2021

2020-10-29(A) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall Russian win8.5 hrsMy plan was to isolate the Russians in the Board 20 building, hit it hard, and sweep up to wrest them out of the Board 51 buildings. I drove my Zrinyis up to the big building, only to forget I couldn't shoot up to Level 2. My Panther was probably a bit too respectful of his T-34, but I had great fear of him finding APCR7. Since Plan A with my Zrinyis developed a hiccup, I then used them to smoke him out. But it wasn't until Turn 3 that I was able to storm it safely, and then it wasn't until Turn 5 that I was able to finally clear things up in CC. This delay would probably be the key to my undoing. I made my moves against his OT-34 on Turn 5, as it was doing a good job of keeping my southern infantry at bay with its FT. No surprise, my Zrinyi bogged while smashing into the stone building in front of it, and my Panther was knocked out by the FT while moving in close. This did allow a clear path for my fanatic squad and a leader to move up and dispatch it in CC though Unfortunately he was able to create a wall of bodies around one VC building that I was unable to reach. Had my bogged tank come loose I probably would've been at least able to tie up all his MMCs in melee. Not a bad little scenario.
2020-06-30(D) Andy Beaton vs Spencer Armstrong Hungarian (Vannay)/Hungarian winRussian heroics and the comedy of a Zrinyi falling into a basement got the game to the last defensive fire phase, but there was no stopping the Hungarian avalanche.

2020-05-06(D) Michael Rodgers vs Bruno L'Archeveque Hungarian (Vannay)/Hungarian winClose, entertaining game. Went to the end.
2020-04-30(D) David Garvin vs Andrew Luden Hungarian (Vannay)/Hungarian winWhat a match. His Hungarians were able to nail both my tanks using Panzer fausts. In the end, we each had around 30 CVP.

Came to the end. Great win by the Hungarians.
