Overview:

The one day delay caused by the strong communist defenses in Dravogard (FE58.1) indeed proved very costly to the Croats fleeing north and west from Tito’s communists. The delay had given the communists time to get north of Dravograd, blocking the Croats move towards Lavamund, instead they moved westward towards Bleiburg. On Monday, May 14th, once again, the road was blocked by a unit of Slovenian partisans. The burning and charred carcasses of an earlier ambushed German column lined the road when the Croatian column came upon them and the leading elements of the Croat column again came under intense fire and once again the Ustache tank company was called forward
