Overview:
The Germans re-entered Stonne at 0500 hours, after a two-hour long barrage on the empty village. The next planned move was to be the occupation of the entire plateau to the south and the seizing of the village of Les Grandes Arnoises. Unexpectedly, the French began their own planned artillery barrage against all suspected jump-off points. The first Battalion of the 64th Regiment truly ran out of luck; they endured a very high percentage of casualties in all their companies, among them, all the officers and NCOs were either dead or wounded. After two hours, two fresh lieutenants joined the disarrayed units and prepared to attack the French forward posts.Attacker: German (1st Battalion, 64th Infantry Regiment, 16th Infantry Division)
