Overview:
Operation Queen was the codename for the assault into the Roer River plain. The American XIX Corps was to cross the Roer and drive towards the Rhine. Most of the terrain was flat and dotted with villages and cultivated fields. The tankers of the 2nd Armored Division were concerned with the soggy soil conditions. For their part, the Germans had established a defensive pattern with the villages as integral parts of concentric arcs fanning outward from the major towns like ripples in a pond. The 2nd Armored Division had divided their attack into three Task Forces, each with a different objective and avenue of approach. Task Force 2 attacked in the center zone. Moving slowly in second gear because of the soggy ground, the tanks were unopposed until they reached a point about 500 yards from Apweiler. Then, undetected anti-tank guns opened up, having hidden in the orchards and fringe woods around the village.Attacker: American (CCB 2nd Armored Division)
Defender: German (176th Infantry Division)

2021-04-09 | (A) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Fedor Grachev | American win | Both guns were discovered quickly. One crew was destroyed almost immediately, the second gun malfunctioned after Intensive Fire, which decided the fate of the game, as all of the tanks were still intact. |
2021-03-20 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Steve Boro | German win (VASL Log) | Turn 1 started badly for the American when a German AT gun appeared and was able to destroy two American tanks despite movement and hindrance TH modifiers. With that initial loss, the Americans advanced cautiously costing valuable time to reach the exit edge. A flanking force maneuvered around the German right, but woods and distance kept them from making substantive gains. |
2020-09-29 | (A) Scott Fischbein | vs | Michael Holy | American win | Americans used smoke to mask their advance, German gun in the woods broke after missing its first few shots, With all but one of the American tanks and lots of squads bearing down on them, and only one functioning gun left, Germans decided to call it a day. |
2020-07-07 | (A) Javier Rodrigo Ballesteros | vs | Carles | German win | |
2020-06-07 | (D) Derek Dunn | vs | Kevin Sanders | American win | American infantry came in stacked in two stacks. Both took low FP shots, but DRs of 2 and 5. They rolled poorly on the MCs and became non-factors. HIP gun in the grain took out 2 Shermans with rate shots in the turrets. Game conceded. Agreed the infantry needed to spread out more and the tanks use more smoke. |
