Overview:
Lt. Col. Jefferson’s Battalion Headquarters along with C and D Companies of the Edmonton Regiment, Canadian 2nd Infantry Brigade conducted a night assault on the town of Leonforte. The Edmontons penetrated to the heart of Leonforte and were met by a vicious counterattack by German infantry, loaded with machine guns and supported by tanks. A handwritten message, entrusted to an Italian boy, reached Brigadier Vokes who brought two 6-pounder anti-tank guns and tank support from the “Three Rivers Regiment” and additional forces from the Princess Patricia Light Infantry in the action to help the Edmontons.Attacker: German (Elements 15th Panzergrenadier Division)
