Overview:

With the Soviet Union now in the war against them, those Polish units still in the field had only two alternatives: surrender to the Germans or Russians, or flight into the neighboring neutrals of Rumania or Hungary. Just miles north of the Hungarian border, Polish cavalry came under fire from Russian forces. With sabres drawn and lances leveled, the cavalrymen commenced their gallop to freedom. . .

2024-08-03(D) Jobbo Fett vs RootinPutin Russian winCame down to the wire around Polish Turn 6 after, in my opinion, too many Polish units were evacuated early and left the Russians with enough troops to cut off the retreat of the last few VP required to win. There was a neat attempt at having the Wagons infiltrate on the opposite side of the map which generated a few worthwhile VP when they made it off-board, but overall this scenario feels bad to play. If the Russians don't set up well enough, or don't get their artillery (Mortars) it becomes that much harder to prevent the Poles from smashing through. There's something to be said as well for having 3 ATRs against the terrible selection of Russian ACs. Not a particularly fun scenario, and ours was tense only due to some selective rolling by dicebot!
2022-07-26(D) Jeff B vs Joe Arthur Polish win4 hrsRussians start with a lot of "ifs," and if even a couple go wrong they are in for a rough road. The biggest is having to protect a whole board against very mobile attackers. It makes the most sense for the Poles to attack heavy east (which is what my opponent wisely did), but a heavy west approach cannot be discounted, and therefore needs to be guard against. Next is the fickle 6-contact radio, and mine never dialed up once. Throw in a few broken key MGs (my MMGs both breaking for good Turns 3 and 4) and you have a recipe for disaster. The ACs are expected to be lost at some point, but I thought staying in motion behind a lot of grain cover might prolong their lives. Wrong. Breathe on them properly and they are done for. With pretty much nothing left in their way, I conceded to the Poles before my way-too-far-from-the-action reinforcements even touched the ground.
2020-08-01(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Russian winNo surprise that the Russians won, but my Poles managed to exit 17 points before Dan's OBA eliminated the last of my wagons for the win.
2019-01-09(A) Will Willow vs Fred Schwarz Russian winFTF
2017-06-19(A) Martí Cabré vs Nicolas Sabido Russian winA hard scenario for the Poles, I managed to break the first Russian line with an agressive move but when I launched my units into a hole the Russian OBA just fell in the middle of my units for 4 player turns, destroying my wagons and many squads. I conceded when the massive Russian reinforcements entered. I think the Poles must advance cautiously and slowly attack the Russians before attempting to exit the map with the wagons.
