Overview:

Shumshu is the northernmost of the Kuril Islands in the Western Pacific near Kamchatka. In mid-August 1945, just after the Japanese surrender, the Russians set out to seize the island. The instructions that had been given to the surrendering Japanese forces left room for self-defense. The local commanders felt that the defense of the island constituted such self-defense and decided to continue the war on their own. Under their command was a powerful force with six battalions of infantry, naval and field artillery and a tank regiment.
Attacker: Japanese (138th Rifle Regiment, 101st Rifle Division)

2021-03-28(D) Rob Schmitt vs James Treu Russian winI played Russian defender. Turn 5 of 6, Japanese player conceded. I played a reverse defense to keep the majority of my units out of the range of his Arty/Howitzer guns. Japanese attacked main effort with all of his tanks and half the infantry to the north of the center hill. Japanese attacked to the south with just an Infantry Stack with Leader. Overall, I had very good luck with the dice rolls this game. I shot for deliberate immobilization on his tanks with the ATR when I could. Japanese lost 4 tanks of 6, 3 immobilized, 1 destroyed. Most of his Infantry have been stripped/reduced by end of game. I still had control of both victory locations when he conceded. One Russian infantry squad in a fox hole directly on a victory hex “Battle Hardened” on a morale check turn 4. I had good luck on a few tank immobilization attacks. I got one huge critical hit on an Infantry stack with leader that broke up the south attack. March Madness 2021.
2014-03-08(D) Ian Morris vs Bill Sherliker Russian win
2012-05-27(A) Richard Carter vs jason Russian winI chose to advance toward gully and got stuck there.
2011-12-08(A) Paolo Cariolato vs pagni Russian winIt'a a very interesting scenario for the japanese, a bit disappointing for the russian that set up and doesn't move except for the final counterattack.
2011-07-25(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs Michel Bongiovanni Japanese win
