Overview:
The 52nd Guards Rifle Division stood in the way of the II SS Panzer Corps. They were reinforced with the 538th and 1008th Antitank Artillery Regiments, and antitank rifle battalion, and the 230th Tank Regiment. The T-34s were kept in reserve for counterattacks. The mission of the division was to sacrifice itself and inflict maximum attrition on the Germans. The Germans overran several positions and continued to slog forward.
