Overview:

Generalleutnant Stever’s 4th Panzer Division was attacking toward Jandrenouille with specific orders from General Hoepner, to concentrate their efforts against the enemy’s Hotchkiss tanks and to avoid combat with French S-35 tanks. French infantry had established strong-points along the 4th Panzer’s route, but their hedgehogs were being submerged in a tide of seemingly unstoppable panzers. At 1300 hours, Colonel de Vernejoul ordered the 1e Regiment de Cuirassiers to attack from its reserve position at Jauche, into the 4th Panzer Division’s open flank. Captain Ameil led 2e Escadron de Cuirassiers’ twenty-one S-35 tanks headlong into a north to south attack against the 4th Panzer, just north of Jandrenouille.
