Overview:
General Von Prittwitz, commander of the 15th Panzer Division, arrived in Tripoli ahead of his division. Rommel appointed him to lead the first attempt to get into Tobruk. Both men agreed that if one battalion had been enough to take Derna, the forces at their disposal, while small, should be enough to do the job. At dawn on 10 April, Von Prittwitz went off to join Ponath’s 8th MG Battalion, 16 kilometers from Tobruk. As they neared a bridge crossing a wadi, the bridge was destroyed by charges placed on it by Australian minelayers.
