Overview:

During the first day of the eventual week-long fight for Hatten-Rittershofen, a company-sized unit from the 25th Panzer-Grenadier Division was sent down a road along the northern flank to bypass and surround the Americans defending the twin villages. Unknown to the Germans there was a platoon from the U.S. 14th Armored Division positioned there to block exactly such a move.
Attacker: German (Kampfgruppe Huss (Panzer-Abteilung 5, of Panzer-Grenadier-Division 25))
Defender: American (Company A, 48th Tank Battalion, 14th Armored Division)

2021-10-29(D) Andy Bagley vs Mike Grogan German winCan't decide whether this is a poor scenario or whether I just feel that way because my dice were terrible. Out of about a dozen reasonable shots with my American tanks and bazookas I managed to score just one hit. Meanwhile the German tanks were much more successful, getting RoF, hitting my weaker turret armour every time, sometimes in the AFPh. I threw in the towel after German turn 4, by which time I had lost all three tanks and had just a leader, squad and broken half-squad left, whilst the Germans had lost just one tank.
I'm sure I could have defended better, and all credit to Mike for a well-planned attack with just the right balance of caution and pace. But we speculated that had the luck been reversed then the result might have gone equally spectacularly the other way. This is an AFV-dominated scenario and maybe this makes it just a bit too dicey.
