Overview:

The Soviet 2nd Ukrainian Front applied steady pressure through the first two weeks of November trying to achieve a breakthrough. Finally the defensive positions held by the 16th Panzergrenadier Division collapsed. The Grossdeutschland Division sent its Tiger Company and supporting infantry to foil the penetration by holding the Soviets at Liubimowka.

2024-11-15(A) Jon Jaramillo vs Daniel V Russian win4 hrsTurned this around and I took the Russians this time with a different plan than messing around with that small front line German force. I set up the entire Russian force in the lowest four south edge hexes. In prep, I got 2 smokes from the mortar and 1 from the SU122, then it was off to the races. Using double time and riders, I moved the entire starting force right down the side of the board, except for a few units that I used to lock up the closest Germans. I was just outside the walled city in turn 2 and had eliminated all the German forward forces on that side of the map. From there, I just whittled away at the German positions. More reinforcements came on the board and quickly joined the fight. Ther Germans were never able to regroup. I had a 628 manning a captured German HMG in the woods lined forward set up area shooting back at the village. My opponent missed a LOS and walked right into a 6 -2 with a stack of guys trying to escape the Russians in the city. I got them all and he threw in the towel I believe in the German turn 4. You can't mess around with the Russians, they just need to move and if you take some losses, well those guys are likely out of the fight.
2024-11-10(D) Jon Jaramillo vs Daniel V German win3 hrsPlaying this as the Germans, I set up the forward group with all my dummies as 5/8" counters and did HIP the 75L AT gun. My opponent, assuming it was a dummy stack, lost two T34s immediately. Slow movement by the Russians allowed the German sacrificial group to hold them for three turns. They were finally all eliminated when the reinforcements came in, but not before they had taken some fairly good losses. The Russians pushed up to the village right before the Germans came on board with their reinforcements, but my opponent maybe didn't do the math and didn't realize that he really couldn't kill Tigers from the front. Not understanding that, he parked two close enough that I was able to drive on CE, one with a -2 AL and hit them both in Advancing Fire with 6s and burned them both. That was enough for him, he conceded the scenario with those losses. We turned it around and played it with me taking the Russians.
2022-01-04(A) Alan Krause vs Tom Arnold Russian winTom called this game early. I had fortuitous luck and managed to swamp the city and break most of his reinforcements.
2020-09-01(D) Mike Grogan vs Carl Roberts Russian winVery enjoyable topsy-turvey game won by the Russians on the last turn.
2017-07-11(D) Diane Spangler vs Lawrence SpanglerD German win
