Overview:
The German reaction to the Warsaw uprising was mixed. Initially the German Army did not want to commit units as they attempted to restore the front against the Russians. The task was given to the SS. Hitler ordered the city to be destroyed and the population to be forced into slave labor. The SS units used this order as an opportunity to commit the worst kinds of atrocities. The RONA units of the Kaminski Brigade were assigned to clear the suburb of Ochota. Arriving on August 5 the RONA troops ignored their military objectives and instead concentrated on looting, drinking, massacring civilians and rape. On August 9 the RONA troops were ordered to attack the AK redoubts of Kaliska and Wawelska.Attacker: German (SS) (1st Regiment, Waffen-Strum-Brigade RONA (Kaminski Brigade))
