Overview:
The attack on 4 November had netted the Germans no relative gain against Kommerscheidt. However, the American infantry had suffered numerous casualties and no replacements had come forward. Meanwhile, the Germans reorganized their regiment in preparation for an attack the following morning. At dawn on 5 November, the Germans fired a relatively ineffective artillery barrage on Kommerscheidt. Out of the morning mist five PzIVs and elements of the 1055th Regiment emerged to begin the second assault on the village. The first assault was thrown back. The Germans regrouped and attacked again at 0920. At 0930, 1st Lt. Leonard arrived with his tank destroyer platoon to bolster the defenses.Attacker: German (Grenadier Regiment 1055, Infantry Division 89)
