Overview:

In the spring of 1944, elements of the Grossdeutschland en route from southern Poland to Vinnitsa were ordered to suppress partisan bands that were paralyzing communication with the 6th and 8th Armies defending Romania. One of the ensuing encounters occurred when the approximate location of a partisan group was ascertained. . .

2024-03-14(A) Jonathan Kapleau vs Nuwesra, Jonathan German win
2019-12-06(D) Jeff B vs Timothy Davis Partisan win4.5 hrsAs one of the very few early core scenarios I hadn't played I was quite curious to give this a go. I imagine the reason I hadn't played it before was the lopsided balance in German victories but, after eyeballing this from a Partisan standpoint, I thought I stood a good chance and, besides, I thought it looked interesting. There is really only one Partisan defense that stands much of a chance in my mind, and that is making the western woods and dry streambed your Alamo. I was counting on the Germans coming in anywhere but the west, but when they came on all north we had immediate shots exchanged on Turn 1. Thankfully I also had a fair number of minefields I was able to encircle my three kills stacks with. Despite this, he was able to knock my HMG/MMG boys out and move in and capture my MGs. Thankfully I was able to return the favor during my half of the Turn, breaking all but a hero (including his 9-1 and a fanatic squad). Unfortunately the hero was able to pull out when he ambushed me in CC, but I did recapture my heavy weapons. All this without my ace-in-the-hole gun, which MALFed on its first shot and Xed out on its first repair. With much of his force either broken, held up on minefields, or securing the VC glen, I was able to escape to the far side of the gully on Turn 3 (MGs and all). When I vaporized a squad and 8-1 trying to cross he figured there was no way he'd be able to get across before preventing me from running offboard on Turn 5. Pretty fun scenario, but probably only playable once due to the above assumptions.
