Overview:

Believing the Russians would soon be in Warsaw, Polish forces went on the offensive. But the Russians stopped and the Germans went after the Poles with a vengeance. Heavy fighting occurred during the German drive to retake the buildings and narrow, twisting streets of Starowka, the Old Town. The attack progressed cautiously on the heels of an artillery bombardment. The defenders, fighting with a fearlessness born of their hopeless situation and hampered by a critical shortage of ammunition, often held their fire to the last moment in order to inflict maximum casualties, taking up the slogan "A German for every bullet!"

2022-08-13(D) Scott Sherer vs John Ferrell Partisan winGerman bombardment was moderately effective, killing two of my squads but not touching my HIP units and leaving most of my strongpoints intact. Where it was incredibly effective was rubbling a lot of building hexes, and, thanks to my four boxcars rolled, flames were everywhere! Soon, several buildings were engulfed in flame, including several hexes of the D4 rowhouse which came into play as the Germans tried to assault the C6 VC building. I thought I made a tactical mistake by trying to defend both VC buildings, and the Germans made decent initial progress. But a few die-hard partisans held onto the G3 building which threw off the time-table some. After the G3 building fell, the Germans turned their attention to the C6 building but were not going to be able to clear it in time and so shifted to the CVP VC. If every CC went the German way in the top of Turn 7, they could have nabbed the 22 CVP needed, but the combination of the stealthy Partisans and lax Germans prevented that outcome and provided the Partisans with a hard-fought win. Played at August CAASL meeting.
2022-04-24(D) Jonathan Kapleau vs Duenskie, Ron German win
2022-01-04(D) David Garvin vs Will Thatcher German winThat opening bombardment was devastating. It wounded my hero and it crippled my HIP 9-1 with HMG. I didn't have to roll for it; its location rubbled!
But that wasn't enough, Will saw an opening and went for it. He kept the pressure on me, not giving me a chance to recover.
Best narrative? One of my 8-0 leaders survived escaping the northern building via Sewer Movement and ended up lost. Eventually he got his bearings back and ended up destroying a wounded enemy leader in CC, only to find himself next to a Goliath that pinned him and then saw him dispatched in the next CC Phase.
Great fun!
2021-09-25(A) Tom Abromaitis vs DrawSolo Partisan win. Certainly dicey but quite a good scenario. Builds a narrative for sure! Could be tough on the Germans if the pre game bombardment doesn't go well.
2020-04-27(A) David Garvin vs Nick Faryna Partisan win
