Overview:

For centuries Transylvania had been fought over by Hungarians and Romanians. The “Vienna Award” of 1940 had placed a large portion of the region under Hungarian rule at the expense of the Romanians. Having switched sides to join the Allies, the Romanians now saw their chance to recover this territory. After some initial setbacks, and now bolstered by Russian support, the Romanians went on the offensive to clear Transylvania of Hungarian opposition. An ad hoc armored detachment struck at the town of Apahida where the 2nd Hungarian Army was defending the Aranyos River line. Hungarian armored forces then counterattacked in an effort to contain the Romanian advance.
Attacker: Romanian (Armored Group Nicolescu/Matel)
Defender: Hungarian (25yh Infantry Division and 10th Assault Artillery Battalion)

2022-12-14(D) Neal Ulen vs Scott Hungarian winBurning AFVs everywhere at the end! My Hungarian strategy was to basically concede my left flank buildings, using skeleton half-squads and concealment to at least force the Romanians to commit something to that side. Then my plan was to turtle around 4 of the central buildings, only needing to hold 3 at the end to deny Romanian victory. My 40L AT Guns placed on this hills were useless and had zero impact on the game. Couldn't hit anything due to LOS, moving, and/or range. One was taken out by a mortar CH, the other malf'd and was eventually eliminated. The Romanian (German) Stugs are a big pain to deal with, I managed to get a lucky CH on one. The Romanian TACAMs that come on later are junk. This is an interesting scenario, but plays much larger than it looks. It has 20 vehicles that end up in tight quarters in the village, slowing down play quite a bit. Hungarians were able to keep the Romanians at bay at the end.

2020-07-15(A) Jeff B vs Scott Sherer Romanian win6 hrsThe Romanians were able to slice the Hungarian defense open up the middle and then just gobbled up real estate thenceforth. Hungarians conceded Turn 5.
