Overview:

The first scenario takes place two days after D-Day and reflects some of the challenges in coordinating the advance inland from the beaches. The Rifles are on the extreme right of the 2nd Canadian Corps. There was no contact with the 50th Infantry Division of the neighboring British corps advancing from Gold Beach, so the Rifles’ flank was open. It was at this time that the reinforced 2nd Battalion, 26th Panzer Grenadier Regiment of the 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitler Jugend) attacked.
Attacker: German (SS) (2nd Battalion, 26th SS Panzergrenadier Regiment)
Defender: Canadian (Royal Winnipeg Rifles)

2018-12-14(A) Jeff B vs Elmo Menon German (SS) winGermans sent a tank on each of the flanks and one up the middle with most of the infantry. The plan was to take the two stone buildings in the west quickly and then swing east for the last one. The Panther in the east was lost to a gun, but at least gained some important recon info. Both Canadian HS with mortars broke. Turn 2 saw the Germans grab one of the stone buildings at the loss of a squad. The two remaining Panthers played it safe while supplying smoke support, awaiting the appearance of the second gun and the Achilles. Turn 3 was rough for the Canadians, losing 3.5 squads, the second stone building, MALFing the Achilles, and saw German infantry on the doorstep of the second gun. One Panther moved up in anticipation of the push east. Turn 4 saw the Achilles recalled after breaking its gun for good, but the engaging Panther also suffered a MALF'd gun and CMG. The next couple turns saw the Germans move east to amass for their assault on the last building, which the Canadians had stocked as full as they could. The Germans had to maintain a fairly strong garrison in the west due to the Canadian reinforcements' appearance. The last turn saw a Canadian leader trash a Panther with his PIAT, which would make taking the last building that much harder, but in the end the Germans had a bit too much. Fun scenario, if not a bit difficult for the Germans.
