Overview:
In early March, 1945 after the conclusion of Operation Konrad, the Germans launched Operation Spring Awakening in yet another of the German efforts to hold onto Hungary. Caught up in this action was Soviet Lt. Valentin Krulik. Krulik was attached to a Motorized Unit of the Soviet 6th Guard Tank Army. As elements of the German 23rd Panzer Division moved towards them, Krulik and his men dug in to try and hold a small village as best they could. But some good luck came their way. As a Soviet 85L AT Gun Crew was passing through the village, Krulik flagged it down and convinced the AT Gun Crew to support their defense. The leader of the gun crew was covered in medals and was confident his gun would be the support that Krulik and his men needed to hold their position.Attacker: German (23rd Panzer Division)
