Overview:

Beginning in September 1939, armies on both sides of the French-German border took position, behind the cover of front line protection units. France had created specific units for border surveillance, the Gardes Frontaliers. But, with mediocre training and second rate equipment, sometimes they even had part of their families in Germany, these were second-rate troops. On the 8th, such a detachment was tasked with the reconnaissance of the village of Berensdorf. - - - Victory conditions: To win, the French player must exit > 9 CVP (in Good Order) off south board edge.

2024-09-09(A) Jobbo Fett vs JobboFett French winThe French got off to an early start by having a squad break, but rescuing the rest of their forces through schemery, bypass, and lack of LOS from the initial German positions. The longer range of the French really helped out when taking potshots, of which the French typically had the better luck, and the Germans were unable to match that with their own morale checks.

A steady retreat and some choice sacrifices meant the Germans could never catch up to the French to put any large amount of pressure. By the end, French losses equaled 6 CVP and they were able to exit 14 to secure the victory. I appreciated the SSR to restrict No Quarter, which makes understanding the prisoner rules that much more important when choosing to move as the Germans. Worth a 2nd play, short and sweet.
2024-05-24(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best French winMy French went with two squads and both LMG's setup as a blocking force. The 7-0 and 8-0 each took 3 squads and made a run for it. Good use of bypass movement has my two escape stacks well on their way. The Germans suffered from terrible MC rolls with a squad KIA'd and another captured. On Turn 2, the German 8-1 would break and two more 4-4-7s's would break and ELR. At the end of two, the Germans conceded as the French were going to exit 14 points and the Germans has been broken in the center.

2023-08-02(A) Richard Jenulis vs Dennis Hess German winI love the esateric theme of this scenario. However, after three plays of this, I am at a complete loss on how the French are supposed to win. Either there is a trick I can't see, or the German players who lost their scenarios were very unlucky. in my opinion, the Germans don't need the booby traps, nor the high SAN. None of the games I played did the booby trash even come into play. The Germans have an advantage of leadership, and the CVP count. The French are disadvantaged with short time to cover the distance under fire, poor leadership, poor ELR, and... being French. They break and they are pretty much out of the game. I tried running from the start the first time I played the French, and putting up a two turn fight before making my run the second time. If someone knows the trick for the French, please share. I'm loosing sleep over this one. :)
2023-04-29(A) S. Slunt vs Stephen Stewart German winThis game is in my opinion is very Pro German
With the Germans able to get CVP it is a double hit to the French
