Overview:

The US forces were making good ground in their offensive with much lower resistance than anticipated. 200 men from the 22nd Infantry Division had easily captured the strategically important Hill 604 late in the afternoon but found themselves cut off from their support. Undeterred and confident, the relatively inexperienced men dug in for the night. One young man named "Lucky Phil" who was renowned for attracting enemy gunfire managed to set up a captured infantry piece with a few volunteers and worked out how to use it. Half an hour before dark, Lucky Phil struck again and the hill was surrounded by Japanese.
Attacker: Japanese (Elements of the Japanese 135th Infantry Division)
