Overview:

Northern France had fallen and General Weygand was desperately attempting to form a long along the Somme. Lacking sufficient forces for a continuous front, he decided on a series of combined-arms hedgehogs which he hoped could thwart the German advance. In these hedgehogs, numerous French units would make many a gallant stand. One such place was the Chateau de Quesnoy, which had been fortified by a company of the tough 53rd Infantry Regiment of the 5th Colonial Division. It stood squarely in the path of Rommel’s oncoming 7th Panzer Division. Having literally ridden roughshod over the French Army in the preceding month, the cocky Germans were quite unprepared for the tenacious stand by these black colonial troops.

2023-05-13(A) Todd Cox vs German winPlayed solo Vassal. German Win in the last turn with close combat to clear out the last French unit in the building. I handled mines by mixing in an almost equal number of dummy mines - so I knew all possible mind field hexes but not which ones were AT or AP, nor which ones were dummy. The French side rolled incredibly the whole game. The French 37* inf gun proved deadly to several GE tanks. Being able to put it in an upper building hex made it very powerful. A French HMG in the 3 level building in the Orchard stood the test of time and was very difficult to take out. I originally found this scenario because I was looking for a scenario with a Sig I self propelled artillery. Unfortunately with its low breakdown/ammo limit, it was recalled before it had any successful shots.
2023-02-11(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins French win
2023-02-11(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best French winVery big, classic scenario that takes an effort to get set up and played. As the French, I placed small blocking forces on Boards 4 and 5 and concentrated the bulks of my force and fortifications at the chateau. Dan's Germans came onto Board 5 as a huge Schwerpunkt. My two roadblocks in that area would delay the Germans for two turns before they were successfully removed. In the meantime, my guns were able to knock out two of the Pz38's and one MIIV. The second MKIV rumbled into a minefield was immobilized and the crew kid when they bailed out. With the CVP number rising with each turn and deep into the game, Dan would give the concession as it was clear that the Germans were soon to hit the CVP cap. Very hard scenario for the attacking Germans.
2021-01-29(A) Richard Jenulis vs Greg Rodgers French winCC put the Germans over the CVP cap at 60 on turn 14. The French ended with 2 squads, an 8-1 leader and a wounded 8-0 leader in the building and a crew outside of it. An epic game.
2020-03-13(D) patrick palma vs Kevin Killeen French win
