In March 12th, Guards Breakthrough Tank Regiment was assigned to 11th Tank Corps to break the German positions near Starakonstantinov. The desperate Germans tried to hold their positions but were unable to mass any kind of reinforcement and were overwhelmed by Soviet armor. The regiment smashed the rear area of the German MLR and allowed the Tank Corps to drive deep behind the enemy lines despite deteriorating weather conditions.
