Overview:

Shortly after sunrise on Pentecost Sunday, Generalmajor Johann Joachim Stever's 4th Panzer Division began moving toward Hannut. In an effort to determine the French dispositions he directed Oberstleutnant Heinrich Eberbach to conduct a reconnaissance in force west of the division's primary objectives at Hannut and Jodoigne. Around 0800, the French withdrew the 12e Cuirassiers to a new screen line west of Hannut. Leutnant Hans Georg Rauschenbach lead a reconnaissance element consisting of five Panzer Is and IIs accompanied by a detachment of motorcycle troops. On this movement-to-contact, Leutnant Rauschenbach encountered the newly established French screening line. An intense skirmish ensued. From a concealed position, Sous Lieutenant Paumé boldly charged with two of his AMD 35 Armored Cars into the midst of the unsuspecting Germans, knocking out two panzers in the process. Surprised by this audacious charge, the Germans disengaged while the main body of the panzer regiment secured Hannut.

2021-11-19(A) Rich Weiley vs Dave Longworth French winPlayed over two face to face Friday night sessions. Screwed this one up in the first session when I squandered about a thirds of my infantry on a fool's errand assault against the French defenders of the stone buildings on the right. My main assault came down the left. First blood in the armour battle also went to the French when AMD with the armour leader took out the Pz2A. The first session ended with a glimmer of hope as I managed to knock out one armoured car. Meanwhile my infantry was dispersed, both 8-0s were dead and would face a hard time exiting facing the unscathed French infantry.

I tried to be creative/aggressive with my armour in the second session, the plan being to overrun his CE armoured cars with the Panzer 1s, which would remain in their hex and allow the Pz2s to close in and shoot up the French vehicles point blank. Net result was two Pz1 blazing wrecks and and a Pz 2 stunned by an LMG shot, (my opponents low To Kill rolls were a feature of this session), The stunned Pz2 died in the next French Prep fire phase. Coming into turn 4 I had a mathematical chance of winning and the last surviving Pz2 did manage to immobilise one AC (which also malf'ed its MA) but this left it exposed to the AL led AMD. The panzer survived defensive fire but was hit and killed as it tried to move in turn 5, so at that point I conceded.

Looks like a good scenario, a more focused attack during the first session would have put me in a much better position. The sting of defeat was somewhat mollified by the excellent chicken vindaloo my opponent provided for dinner.
2021-02-25(A) Tom Kearney vs Alan Saltzman German winThe French strongly defended the two stone buildings adjacent to the east-west road on board 11a. Only the HIP AMD 35 with armor leader protected the southern approach, assisted by a 7-0, squad, and LMG. The Germans swarmed the southern approach, lost the PzIIa, but eliminated the French defenders in that area during the AFPh and subsequent RPh. A centrally located AMD 35 disabled it’s MA and the remaining one failed to pass a non-platoon movement DR. This gave the Germans a clear route to exit much more than the required 14 EVP. The French deployment could have been better. This is a fast playing scenario that has potential to be a nail biter.
