Overview:

The war, it seemed, was all but over. The Emperor had departed the country and the Ethiopian armies were scattered and defeated. The capital city of Addis Ababa (or “New Flower”) was occupied by almost 10,000 Italian troops. The fact of the matter was that although the Italians held the capital, there were at least 50,000 armed and hostile Ethiopians scattered in the hills surrounding the city. Aberra and Asfa Wossen, sons of Ras Kassa, an Ethiopian nobleman and army commander, had taken up the struggle that their father had abandoned. Together they hatched a bold plan: a desperate counterattack with the twin aims of occupying Addis Ababa and the destruction of the Italian garrison. At dawn on the 28th, with the city shrouded in a heavy blanket of rain, the main force of Ethiopians lead by Aberra and some cadets from the Holeta Academy infiltrated the outskirts of the sprawling city. Their objective was St. George’s Cathedral and the marketplace it overlooked located in the heart of the capital.

2025-08-31(A) Don Berg vs Solo Ethiopian winEthiopians sent the bulk of their force over the south bridge, with only a holding force to threaten the north flank. The Armored trucks raced to the north reinforcement edge for the Italians, where they secured that zone, but had one truck immobilized. The Italians waged a successful delaying action on the south flank until the Ethiopians staged a human wave through the heavy rain, that wiped out all but one stack. Having been flanked, the commander resigned.
2022-08-14(D) Jobbo Fett vs RootinPutin Italian/Eritrean winA very hard night for the Ethiopians as they conceded by the end of Turn 4, having lost half their forces dead or broken, thanks to consistently low dice versus troops moving across the road or in Close Combat. Despite having an edge in firepower in the few CCs we had, the Italians were benefitted by the Hand to Hand modifiers, with a 347 squad killing three Ethiopian squads, leaving us both stunned. Rootin did their best to push aggressively, something that is required by the distances the Attacker needs to cover to get to the objective, but the Armored Cars had something to say about it. Ultimately, I would say that the scenario and boards should be changed, and the Ethiopians being given an ELR of at least 3 to reflect the fact that they were motivated to stop the Italian invaders.
2022-07-31(D) Dan Best vs Larry Zoet Ethiopian winSt. Louis ASL Tournament 2022.
2022-05-25(A) Shane Pask vs Italian/Eritrean winI conceded after turn 7 - too few, too far, two Lancias. I seemed unable to pass a MC without ELR and could not get my forces arranged to start a human wave. By turn 7 the Italians had filled the capital building and there was no way the Ethiopians would get in.
2022-05-24(A) neal ekengren vs solo Italian/Eritrean winOne of the better Nagus scenarios. Ethiopians overrun the road crew is trivial. By turn 4 all forces are swarming on the victory building. Going to be pretty tough for the Ethiopians which is basically 4 turns remaining to succeed.
