Soviet forces had succeeded in pushing the Finnish troops defending the lightly-held extreme northern flank of Finland back several miles from the border. This was not unexpected, especially given that Finnish command had only a battalion to hold a third of Finland while the Soviets had committed an entire army to the operation. As the clock ticked over on 24 February, the Soviets launched operations to cut the local road using a company of ski troops in and around the light forest of pine trees. The Finns were only patrolling the area but had spotted the movement and, realizing the danger, committed all they had available to halt the attack.

Defender: Finnish (Elements of Artillery and Supply Company, Detachment Pennanen)
Russians attacked down the north road and pushed the Finns back into the buildings, but never was able to eliminate any squads. All three CC's either resulted in Finn victories or the Finns were able to retreat out of CC. Two squads tried to slip around to the south road, but the one Finn squad on that flank was able to slip out of encirclement to sit on the wooded road.

Even with the Russian balance it was difficult to inflict any lasting effects on the Finns. CC was slightly better but risky and drawn out.

In my opinion this is a difficult scenario for the Russian. Those Finnish Conscripts are a nut to hard to crack. The Night and the Deep Snow conditions don't help the soviets to make a quick progression, even with skies.

My Finns sucked life. 1st roll for the MMG was an 11...that was game. I had to concede on Turn 3 as my lousy dice rolls allowed the Russians to just walk all over me. So much fun.
