Overview:

The curtain was finally beginning to close on the grueling Italian Campaign. Breaking into the Po Valley was the next objective of the Allies and the exhausted Germans were desperate to hang on this rich agricultural and industrial resource for the Reich. The final leg of the Italian Campaign would begin in April and on the 14th of that month, the men of the 85th Mountain Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division were moving towards a cluster of hills north of Monte della Spe. Hill 909 was the objective and soon the men of G Company were advancing through the difficult terrain under heavy German machinegun and mortar fire.

2023-11-07(D) Rob Schmitt vs Mitch Davis German winI was German defender vs American attacker. Americans attacks from the south and needs to take 3 hill locations. German has trenches and 2 pill boxes. German setup with 2 trenches on forward center hill and the two pill boxes on other hills with covered arc facing south. American did a flanking attack to the east and west to avoid the Pillbox Covered arcs. The east side Americans ran into wire and minefields that slowed their attack. The West side attacked was slowed by long range German MG fire and mortars. American ran out of time and was not in position to take all three hills without exposing himself by rushing over open ground late. These were cut down. German dice were hot/American dice were cold. American conceded turn 5.
2023-03-24(D) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins German winFirst to play and post.
2023-03-24(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best German winMy attack had base of fire with 9-1 and 2 squads with MMG's. They didn't do as well as I needed with too many 10 rolls with 14 factor shots. My attack up the center and on the right would ultimately take 2 or the 3 victory locations, but Dan's sniper and mortars absolutely crushed me. By Turn 4, I had to concede after his broken mortar rallied and promptly shot and killed my 9-1 and broke both of his squads. I was completely out of juice and a German victory.
