Overview:
Colonel General Andrei Kravchenko's 6th Guards Tank Army was attacking towards Vienna with the intent that the 5th Guards Tank Corps and the 9th Guards Mechanized Corps would bypass pockets of German resistance and close their western and northwestern escape routes to the Danube. SS-Brigadeführer Hellmuth Becker (commanding the rapidly disintegrating 3rd SS-Panzer Division) tasked his division's remaining two Tiger I tanks to protect the northern routes out of Judenau which lead to the vital Danube River bridge at Tullin. Obererscharführer's Georg Wimmer and Alois Tassler positioned their Tigers in anticipation of the Russian attack.
