Overview:

At this time, the Korean Marine Corps held a sector of the line on the extreme western flank of the of the Korean peninsula from Kimpo eastwards towards Munsan-ni. The KMC's right flank tied into the left flank of the 1st Marine Division, along the Bunker Hill Line- part of the Jamestown Line as a whole. As with the USMC, the KMC had established a series of outposts in front of the main line of resistance. One of these was Outpost 36, aka Honbi Hill, which lay just north of the Tongjang-ni Road, and only 300 yards from where the road's bridge crossed the Sachon River, as it flowed south to the Imjin River, and only some 800 yards from the enemy's front line. On the night of 18/19 September, a company sized element of the CPVA slipped across the Sachon, and went to ground for the coming day to avoid being detected. On the night of 19/20, the enemy force divided into 3 attack elements, the classic "one-point, two-sides" tactic, and moved into positions to assault Outpost 36. The Chinese moved forward after a pre-planned bombardment of it by CPVA artillery and mortars, which the KMC was able to weather thanks to their bunkers and "rabbit holes."
Attacker: Chinese (582nd Regiment, 195th Division, 65th Corps)
