Overview:
As part of Operation URANUS, the Soviet 21st Army thrust out of the Kletskaya bridgehead, breaking through the Romanian 3rd Army positioned along the Don River. Several Romanian divisions became encircled near Golovsky and were placed under the command of Major General Mihail Lascar. Lascar was a capable Romanian commander who had been awarded the Ritterkreuz for his past exploits. Group "Lascar" was ordered to hold at all costs, and the Romanians braced for the onslaught on the snowy Russian steppe.Attacker: Russian (4th Tank Corps, 21st Army)
