Overview:

The American 7th Army struggled to regain the initiative even as the German Operation NORWIND sputtered out. Appalling weather had hampered their ability to exploit setbacks suffered by the Wehrmacht in the ill-fated offensive. Seventh Army commander Lieutenant General Alexander Patch ordered the 12th Armored Division to attack the German Bulge at Herrlisheim. The 12th was untested in combat and had yet to work out the kinks of tank-infantry cooperation. To make matters worse, the tanks of the 17th Armored Infantry Battalion-in the rush to get to the front-had not been fitted with rear deck "tank-infantry" phones, meaning that the accompanying infantry taken under fire would be unable to communicate with the tankers inside. Halftrack crews advanced with the infantry, their dismantled machine guns at the ready. After a harrowing approach to the town where the concealed German anti-tank guns raked the American armor, the 17th Armored Infantry Battalion, with some surviving tanks grabbed a foothold in the southern end of the town. The defending Volksgrenadiere, stiffened by the presence of SS-Panzer-Division 10 "Frundsberg", launched a ferocious counterattack to expel the Yankees.
Attacker: German (SS) (553. Volks-Grenadier-Division, SS Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 22, 10 SS Panzer-Division "Frundsberg:")
Defender: American (17th Armored Infantry Battalion, Combat Command B, 12th "Hellcat" Armored Division)

2026-05-18(A) Andy Goldin vs Matt Keurejian American winI almost pulled off a win as the attacking Germans at this one, but not quite. I got 5 squads in the final building but a few broken and at one good order American squad managed to get upstairs, denying me the victory. Matt and I both had crazy dice, malfing numerous vehicles and SW. I got two critical hits (one on the Sherman Jumbo, the other on a Bazooka team behind a stone wall), without which I probably wouldn't have made it as far as I did. Germans need to have everything go right for them to get the fourth building, and my elite SS melted from American firepower at least a couple key times. Germans need another turn to pull of a win in this scenario, in my opinion.

2026-04-27(A) Craig Houliston vs Rich Domovic American winLooked decent for German's in first two turns. However, lost 2 x Panthers (one hull-down) in a single DFire phase to two APCR (TK22) turret hit shots (M4 had ROF) to take 16 CVP on top of ~8 already lost. Conceded in turn 4 after Germans missed again in CCs that would have given them 2/4 of the buildings needed.
