Overview:
The 1st Cossack Cavalry Division fighting under German colors, had been in Yugoslavia for nearly a year doing “search and destroy” missions against Tito’s Partisans. One column of the division was returning to base when it received word that 500 Croatian troops in the town of Palesnik were cut off by Partisans and urgently needed help.
