Overview:

The mission of the German paratroopers approaching Heraklion was to take the town and its airfield in order to land troops of the 5th Mountain Division. As the paratroopers jumped from the Junker Ju52s, each armed with only a few grenades and a pistol, they were confident of their success. German intelligence, however, had erred terribly in calculating the British forces ability to resist an airborne attack. . .

2024-02-10(A) Tony Fermendzin vs Craig Renier German win
2022-03-31(A) M T vs T.L. British winWhat looked like a blowout at first was turned into quite an even handed match in the end, decided only on the last turn.

The drop is dicy and the FJs are very vulnerable until they get their gear in order. On the other hand the Germans have a lot of high morale MMCs and good SWs, so they can afford some losses. The Brits also need to spread out their Ammunition Shortage riddled forces (or risk an unopposed landing somewhere) and the board is big, so they start out streched thin. If the Germans have some luck in this one it can turn into a very good and interesting game. I do enjoy the dynamic Victory Conditions.

This was the first scenario I have ever played featuring an Air Drop. It was an interesting change of pace and makes for a different kind of scenario, but I can see why some players don't like the big luck factor involved. Do keep rule E.5 Aerial Range in mind when shooting at the FJs, we didn't notice it at first and had to replay the scenario beginning.
2022-03-30(D) Tommi Lehtinen vs M T British winIn the end I found the game surprising positive experience. At first the German are taking the beating, but when they manage to gather their equipment the German move on the offense and the British need to play defense. The flexible victory condition gives lot of replay value. So, there is a lot to like. One negative thing is the randomness element on the drop. The game could basically be over after the first German turn if the Germans manage to drop all three wings without major casualties (German win), or if at least two wings make a lousy drop (British win), but with a statistically most like rolls the scenario feels rather balanced.
2021-04-26(A) John Garlic vs Dale Wetzelberger German win[Imported from ROAR]
2020-10-24(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best British winMy British were very successful in inflicting heavy losses on the the first 3 German Sticks as they came down. One stick was completely eliminated by Turn 5. The other two were seriously degraded. Dan did get his 9-2 to the HMG and a crew to the 81 mm MTR. The game went all the way to the end, but the Germans couldn't take more than a single half board. 12 German squads were lost of out of 19. Very hard game on the Germans.
