Overview:

The mission of the German paratroopers approaching Heraklion was to take the town and its airfield in order to land troops of the 5th Mountain Division. As the paratroopers jumped from the Junker Ju52s, each armed with only a few grenades and a pistol, they were confident of their success. German intelligence, however, had erred terribly in calculating the British forces ability to resist an airborne attack. . .

2024-02-11(D) Craig Renier vs Tony Fermendzen German winThe German first drop zones were on boards 18 and 16. A number of sticks drifted off board. The British setup should have focused on the board quadrants. Instead, too many units were placed in a position where it took too long to take advantage of the initial attacker weakness. Some British units attempted to attack, but could not get into position in time and ended up being eliminated. For the 2nd drop, the British had repositioned well making it possible to reduce the attacker strength. However, once the first drops had armed and consolidated, there was little the British could do to stop them.
2020-08-14(D) Michael Tisdel vs Joe Schirmer German winOverall interesting and a fun play, but it really turns on how the Germans come out of the initial 2 turns of running around. The British have a lot of ground to cover with relatively short ranged FP. The fully equipped germans have better range and FP and can concentrate on their objectives. However, if they get slaughtered on the drop, they can't recover.
2020-08-14(A) Joe Schirmer vs Michael Tisdel German winThis game hinges on the Germans surviving the paradrop and organizing on the ground afterwards. The luck of the dice can easily decimate the Germans before they even get on the ground.
2013-04-07(A) Martí Cabré vs Andy Beaton British winDuplicate from scenario 97.
