Overview:

A scratch task force from CCB of the 3rd Armored Division, with some GIs from the 30th Infantry, was placed under Lt.-Col. King. His orders: clear Haut Vents. Unfortunately, due to heavy losses in previous action, he could muster only six medium and two light tanks for the dawn attack. But he swung aboard the lead tank, one equipped with a bulldozer blade, and mounted the slope without hesitation. Tearing holes in the bocage, King's tank lead the assault with the other vehicles and infantry pushing through the gaps behind him.
Attacker: American (33rd Armored Regiment and 119th Infantry Regiment)
Defender: German (Panzergrenadier Regiment 901, Panzer Lehr Division)

2017-01-01(D) Tom Kearney vs Walt McWilliams German win
2017-01-01(A) walter mcwilliams vs Tom Kearney German winMy first ever Deluxe scenario. Not a fan and still not a big fan, but one should try new things. What interested me about this when Tom suggested it was, 1) I needed to play at least one deluxe scenario in my ASL career, 2) I like bocage and 3) I find attacking as the Americans difficult. In fact, in the ETO, I can only recall ever winning one or two scenarios as the US and most of those were as the defender.

From the get go things didn't go well. I stumbled into a bore sighted hex and a hex in LOS of his level 2 kill stack and my 6 morale Joe's broke like a dozen eggs and one of the dozer sherman's bogged. Attempts to exploit my successes in the center and right were stymied by Tom's excellent defense and my in ability to pass even the easiest of morale checks. The american armor was just as impotent. Overall my attack was to dispersed. The Germans have some reasonable interior lines while the US has virtually no lateral movement until they get some room

I think this is one of those scenarios which requires a long map study or a few playing's for the American, and even with all the firepower I think it's a difficult row to hoe. The most difficult think to deal with is the pathetic leadership the US has to suffer with that combined with their brittle morale makes getting an assault or two to stick very difficult and overcoming the heavy terrain just as hard.
