Overview:

In late March of 1945, Sepp Dietrich launched his well-blooded 6th SS Panzer Armee against Tolbuhkin's Third Ukrainian Army. No sooner had Dietrich begun his attack than Tolbuhkin trumped him with an even greater offensive. In the ensuing melee, the Ukrainians crushed the heavily outnumbered SS. The survivors fell back, hoping to stem the Soviet drive toward Vienna. Dietrich ordered a Kampfgruppe led by Lt.-Col. Fritz Hagen to fall back to a blocking position astride the main Budapest-Vienna highway. In the midst of a spring snowstorm, Tolbuhkin's spearhead smashed head-on into Hagen's tank-supported light infantry screen.

2023-08-20(A) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne Duval Russian winAs Russians I chose the exit VC. Avoiding as much direct conflict as possible allowed me to get past the defenders for the win.
2023-08-20(D) Dwayne Duval vs Kevin Duval Russian win
2023-07-27(A) Asad Rustum vs Alex Koestler German (SS) winPartly due to incompetence and partly due to luck, the Russians lost 6 tanks in the initial three turns. Things looked a little brighter when the Russians got a good hold of the German infantry but that lock was broken and at the same time, the falling snow made any advance of the remaining Russian tanks a very tough task. The Russians conceded the game in turn 5.
2021-01-02(D) Tripp Killin vs Phil Watkins German (SS) win

(VASL Log)
I played the Germans. Things looked bad at the beginning as I had underestimated the speed of the Russian advance. My infantry was soon engulfed and mauled. The remnants retreated towards the town on board 10.
But the HIP infantry took out a few tanks, and I chose good positions for my Panthers and half-tracks, meaning the Russian armor had no choice but to risk the fire at some point.
Obviously, the Russian goal is to rush as many tanks and squads as possible onto the Panthers, and hope they miss, or at least don't retain ROF. I both hit and retained. By end of German Prep Fire of Turn 5, seven Russian AFVs were dead and no Panthers had been damaged.
The bottlenecks on Board 10 at CC7 and AA2 and all the open ground below the Board 11 hill make this a very tough puzzle for the Russians despite their awesome superiority at start.
An absolute blast, though. It's fun pushing those awesome tanks around.
2020-04-29(D) X von Marwitz vs Lars-Peder Jensen German (SS) winThis action is set on 1. April 1945 in wintery Hungary pitting a massive armored Russian Guards force of 14 T-34/45, SU-85, IS-2, and ISU-122 with Riders and a Truck against an initial dispersed force of 6x 658 SS squads with three leaders and a Hero supported by two SPW 251/1 (yeah, that's the 'normal' one) and a HIP PSW234/4 with a circled B9 raised to 10 for its 75L gun. The Russians may secretly opt to either exit a number of VP or by Controlling a number of Stone Buildings in the village while not losing more than 12 AFV.

2019-11-13(A) Paolo Cariolato vs Federico Corso Russian winThe single most important event was the early increase in falling snow, this hampered the defence greatly.
IN fact the SS opted for and advance defence, but the SS troopers were bypassed by infantry riding tanks, the HIP AFV and schreks claimed 4 russian tanks but there were more than enough to engage the Panthers,
3 Cats were sent in the village, and 2 over the hill where Federico overlooked a close call LOS and an IS claimed is armor leader and Panther, an heroic T34 claimed one more Cat winning Gun Duels against the Panthers and an IS finished the Job killing another panther. At that point at the beginning of 6th turn my opponent throw the towel. There were just 2 tanks opposing 10 of mine and more important all his infantry (except for a broken HS) were behind my line and no one could defend the village. Very good scenario with high replay value, we both enjoyed the ride.
2018-08-30(D) jon smith vs Neil Brunger German (SS) winRussians pushed with riders across the board, an odd move saw the truck carrying an MMC and HMG dart down what appeared to be an open flank... the HIP 9-1 658 and MMG shredded it with shots... the 2 HIP shrecks claimed 4 tanks as they pushed forwards but in reply the Russians obliterated some key stacks with 122mm HE Rounds on crits! ouch.

The panthers arrived just in time and 3 took up position hull down on the hill, 2 others into the village, a t34 85 ran the gauntlet of fire and survived all the way to the back field, where it was chased down by an infantry over running panther in a moment of teutonic glory!

Russians pushed into the central field and became a shooting gallery for 3 panthers and the falling back MMG team from the centre.. .with broken infantry all over the place, and only 5 functional tanks left the Russians threw in the towel with 2 turns to go...not enough left to reach VP
2015-10-08(D) Michael Rodgers vs Jim Fardette German (SS) winAt the beginning of this scenario, the German player can really feel the desperation of small resources versus the Russian hoards, because the Panthers do not enter until turn two. Even then, it is five Panther D tanks against fourteen Russian tanks. The Russians entered with a lot of riders. I think there were units on both entry boards. During the MPh, a HIP German HS took out by PF one tank with riders. The HS died soon after. Two Panthers moved in front of the hill mass on the German side. A third Panther, with the 10-2 AL, stayed on level one. Two other Panthers moved on the German left to take up positions partially behind a wall. As the Russian tanks moved closer, the Panthers started to get a few kills. Jim reacted by hiding his tanks, unloading them, and re-grouping for swarm tactics. During the re-grouping, a German HS with PSK had a shot at a Russian tank, but missed. The falling snow changed to heavy falling snow, so the German advantages were less. One Russian tank took out a Panther on a non-stopped BFF shot. Just as the Russians were about to swarm the Panthers (some of which had pulled back a bit), the falling snow stopped. The Russians killed another Panther (with the AL), but in the next German fire phase, the remaining Panthers killed four Russian tanks. This led Jim to concede because his VC choice was to exit 42 VP. We had played five of the eight turns. I can’t remember using the Panther D tanks before. Their start-up roll has three negative possibilities: burn, immobilize or stall. My AL was stuck in one that immobilized.
