Overview:
In Russia and Poland, Ukrainian partisans attacked military and police outposts, assassinated Communist and Red Army leaders, and waged a bitter but unheralded war. In March 1945, Stalin ordered Nikita Khrushchev to the region, giving him unlimited powers and orders to crush the movement. What followed was a year of terror and torture, mass arrests, wholesale deportations and endless executions. Yet the UPA continued to fight back effectively, and Khrushchev was forced to institute a series of large-scale military operations. One such anti-partisan sweep stumbled upon a UPA training encampment in the woods between Velyka Turia and Stankova on an overcast day in February 1946.Attacker: Partisan (UPA) (UPA Company "Letuny")
