Overview:

The battle to take the ancient Spanish city of Intramuros was ready to begin. The 1st Cavalry Division was in position west and south of the walled city. The 37th Infantry Division held key buildings east of Intramuros. Now, an amphibious assault across the Pasig River would come from the north. Divisional and XIV Corps artillery began their supporting fire as well as laying smoke screens around 0730 hours. At 0820, the first boats and LVTs hit the water.
Attacker: American (3rd Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division with 672nd Amphibious Tractor Battalion with 117th Engineer Combat Battalion)

2024-12-20(D) John Garlic vs Alex Koestler Japanese win
2023-04-13(A) walter mcwilliams vs Tony Hutton DrawTony and I were unable to complete our playing past turn 8 and decided to call it a draw, though I'm certain it would have bee a Japanese win. Tony refused the fort so my commandos scaled the walls under cover of a smoke screen and cleared it with some help from a 1 of 2 666 that entered through the existing breach. The first died when Tony evaporated it with his hidden bomb.
Tony's OBA was on fire and kept my center pinned/dm in the 3 hex building on the river front for 4 turns, it was maddening, it also immobilized an LVT(A)4 in a useless hex. His use of AA guns on upper levels (Allowed by CG rules) was critical to his success and made easier by the fact I boxcared the Aerial OB then Eliminated it with a 6 repair, never drew a single card!
By the mid turns however, the US had established a strong attack on their left and their fire power began to methodically blast and flame their way through the VC. I don't think I had the time to get it all cleared but Tony did and threw in the Towel.
