Overview:

As the fight in southern Norway moved into the highlands, the German tactics developed into a somewhat uniform pattern. Largely restricted by the surrounding terrain and weather conditions, any line of advance had to parallel the existing road system. Taking advantage of these restrictions, the Allies based their defense on a series of roadblocks supported by flanking fire from surrounding high ground. The Germans, quick to learn, would answer this defense in classic style by pinning the defenders with heavy fire while conducting a flanking maneuver with the main force. After being forced from a number of positions in this manner, Allied troops once again formed a hasty defense near the village of Otta on the Laagen River with units of the newly arrived British 15th Brigade.

2025-03-05(A) Rob Tyson vs Peter DunnD German win
2024-04-10(D) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne DuvalD German winOnce the majority of attackers made it past the defenders setup in mid hill it all began failing miserably ... even before the Boats made to the opposite shore, the only AFV left made a daring OVR into Woods which broke British stack leaving too few units to muster a final defense. Turn 10 defeat.
2024-04-10(A) Dwayne Duval vs Kevin DuvalA German win
2024-04-07(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German winThe oldie is long but plays fast due to low counter density. I drew the Germans, who are favored, and took two big chances: 1) I risked the bog DRs to send the Panzers at Jim's units on Hill 621, and 2) I took Zone 3 for the boat units. Both gambles paid off. The Panzers passed 12+ Bog checks and exited easily after helping the ski 548s clear Hill 621. My reinforcements came on in GT8 and basically paddled up to the exit area. Jim: I faced two flanking moves plus a fixing attack along the board 2 road. I stopped the German right hook (none of those 467s exited), but the left hook took out my 76 MTR and HMG and cleared the riverbank for a relentless German advance. Two 467s found my HIP 25LL before it got a shot off, and the crew died pushing it to a better position. The German squads crossing the river administered the coup de grace in turn 10. This one was fun but very challenging for the defender, and the British balance (+3 German Exit VP) won't make up for a poor plan. I didn't expect to need both ATRs between hex 2O5 and the river!
2021-01-06(A) Rob MacGinley vs Jason Nichols British winEnjoyed the ability to select when the boats come in
Enjoyed the very long game and need to persist to get to victory

His Over watching kill stacks just kept paying dividends - I had sent my elite ski men to clear the hill and they got there quick but we annihilated - then both the exit to the edge and the boat crossing was just shooting ducks for him from the hill and I never got close to crossing alive or to the exit area and he always got good shots with ROF !!! - just murder on my men

I think the Updated VASL Map shown on this page is incorrect. It shows the Level 2 Hill hexes of Hill 621 as being converted to woods but SSR 2 say it is only the level 2 hexes of Hill 538 as being woods hexes.
