Overview:

Generally, the American advance through Southern France was so swift that it was rare when the Germans stayed and fought. However, the swiftness of the advance often caused German elements to be cut off and faced with the decision to either fight on in an isolated pocket or to surrender. Outside Cannes on a small hill, one such group set up a well dug-in perimeter and seemed determined to hold out. To dig them out, the Americans committed elements of the 509th Parachute Battalion, supported by heavy weapons and the guns of the 463rd Parachute Field Artillery.

2021-07-13(D) O Ramaille vs German winThe German choose to setup in a restricted circle area (as suggested in the General magazine) with access to pillboxes restricted by cliffes hexsides and very few LOS to the area at lower levels and mines protecting the North approach and wires quite everywhere within the circle. The Americans put their 4 heavy MGs at the second level with a 9-2 leader. They were very effective against one pillbox eliminating one squad. The OBA covered the entire area with smoke but not enough to prevent the German killing stack with the 10-3 leader, a MMG and a HMG to fire with success through smoke and eliminating a US leader and 2 squads. The mines eliminated a halftrack and another squad. The last needed CVP was provided by a Sherman destroyed in CC with ATMM. A very tactical scenario fought in a very short area 6-hex radius and thus a very high density of counters. Better played by VASL.
2020-08-23(D) John Garlic vs David Varick Ready American win[Imported from ROAR]
2019-10-12(D) James Lowry vs Tracey Love German win
2012-08-30(D) Martí Cabré vs Miikka Sohlman American winI think that my German setup was not very good as the Americans had no trouble closing in to the pillboxes. They had a lot of casualties from mines and sniper, going to 14 CVP (German win was 16 CVP), but they pulled a trick from the hat using OBA smoke to cover the last MG LOS to the edge of the map, thus denying the other victory condition.
