Overview:

As the Third Reich collapsed, many American leaders became bold to the point of recklessness. Often, a daring stroke by a small group of GIs yielded a vast gaggle of demoralized German prisoners. But sometimes the Americans pushed their luck to far and the Germans, like a wounded animal, would lash back with stinging effect. At early dawn, Company A of the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Regiment crossed the Rhine and advanced toward the town of Hitdorf. Unfortunately, elements of the 62nd Volksgrenadier Division had just linked up with lingering elements of the 11 Panzer Division, and these Germans were not yet willing to lay down their arms. The landings went easy enough, but as the paratroopers entered the town, they were met by an enemy company that had been rushed to the sector.

2024-12-07(D) Chris Larkin vs American win
2021-08-20(A) O Ramaille vs American winThe Americans attacked quite frontally and suffered several losses to the mines. They managed however to control the three-story stone building. The German radio fell early in American hands but the Volksgrenadier held the town and prevent further advance from the US troops. The 100 mm US OBA disrupt the German defense and the Americans finally took hold of Hitdorf. The German counter-attack reinforced by armour was unable to push the Yankees back despite inflicting several casualties. The Americans won with the control of 4 stone buildings and 21 CVP suffered.
2018-07-31(D) Martí Cabré vs Txema Mainez American winDuplicate of 202.
2013-06-05(A) Jeff T vs Jerry American winThis is a classic attack/defend scenario that staggers reinforcements into the battle from both sides as the Americans come in as the initial attacker to take the board 3 village stone buildings and then must hold 2 of the 5 against strong German reinforcing infantry and later armor.

The initial German defenders are all setup HIP, however there is only a squad with LMG, a leader, and a crew bolstered by 36 factors of AP mines. My initial units decided to attack the flanks to try to get on the level 2 hills to interdict the German turn 1 reinforcements (specifically the roads into the center of the village). This was mostly successful as Jerry played it conservative by bringing his infantry into the woods at the base of the Southern hill. The flank attack also avoided hitting any mines early as I searched with a couple of squads. I quickly took the 3-hex victory building at 3N1. I did stumble into mines in the road at 304. Later searching put Jerry's mines all along the road from 3S2-3N4, effectively cutting off the center of the village from the expected staging area in the courtyard of 3N2.

My paratroopers got into the center of the village around the edges of the mines and I took victory buildings 3S3 and 3O5 and tried to consolidate my defense around these two buildings, knowing I could lose one but not both. Both sides tried to get OBA down, but the American spotter was picked off on the hill and had to rout down. Jerry got his OBA down and brought smoke down on 3S3 and 3O5 to allow his troops to creep up. Unfortunately it also allowed the Americans a safe haven for 2 turns in the combination of smoke and stone buildings. A couple of squads snuck in via the smoke and the US defense was 3 squads in 3S3 and three squads and 2 leaders in the 3O5 complex area.

The Germans pushed hard on the counterattack, especially when the Panzer IVs came in on turn 6. They broke 2 of 3 squads in 3S3 with OBA and the 10-2 and tank acquisition put the last squad in a pinch. He broke on turn 8, but OBA cleared a minefield in 303 so the Americans got another half-squad in at the end. Jerry got a crew upstairs in 3S3 to seize control from the Americans, so it came down to the 3O5 building. Jerry tried to rush vehicles over to the area, but the paratroopers proved accurate with their bazookas, taking out a halftrack and a Panzer. A final push for the building was unsuccessful as I had layered squads in 3O4-3O6 buffer (the mines prevented a road dash) and he couldn't quite get squads to take the building. American victory.
2013-05-18(A) John Van Natta vs Jerry German winFirst, my attack ran afoul of the minefields and suffered 3 squads KIA and a leader wounded. Second, I failed to interdict his 10-2, who proceeded to set up an invincible kill stack. And kill he did, stopping my attack cold. Finally, my reinforcements attempted to flank him in order to avoid the 10-2 and the mines, only to smack into his reinforcing tanks. The flanking attack was thus stymied and broken up. I conceded in turn 7. It wasn't even close. Seems like it could be a good scenario, though.
