Overview:

The mission of the 101st Airborne Division in Operation Market-Garden was to secure the 15 miles of highway stretching from Eindhoven north to Veghel. The orders foe COL Robert Sink and his 506th Regiment were to seize the main highway bridge over the Wilhelmina Canal at Zon and secure Eindhoven. With his regiment down in good order along the edge of the Zonsche Woods, Sink sent Major James LaPrade's 1st Battalion racing to grab the vital bridge, followed closely by 2nd and 3rd Battalions. The Screaming Eagles faced almost no opposition until the Paratroopers reached the northern outskirts of the village of Zon.

2024-12-27(D) Mark Peak vs Phil Kuchinsky American winPhil was down, but not out. I forced the Americans to the left through the town but my placement of one of the 88s was poor. Not sure why, but I put on on the center hill and it just never came into the game. Phil and the Americans finally overwhelmed my forces and then rolled snake eyes to knock out my other 88's crew. And that was pretty much all she wrote.
2024-11-15(A) Mark Peak vs Dan Leader German winDan set up with his hidden 88s in the last tree line south and I just couldn't get by them. I thought I had a chance when he moved his forces to the village and I cut back across the hill but his 88s just got rate after rate and my good rolling early went dry in the end.
2024-09-09(D) Nicolas Leste-Lasserre vs German win
2024-08-17(D) Enrico Croce vs Enrico Croce American win4 hrs
2024-07-19(A) Herve Duval vs Seb Thomas American winVery tight game.
The Germans had incredibly good fire rolls.

But the US is a rallying machine. A couple of German mistakes led to a very tight finish were the remaining GIs all rushed cx on T6. 4 squads and 1 leader got broken (most of them by one shot by a pesky 2-3-6 and its residual FP1!).
But a 9-2, a 8-1 and a squad made it (the squad and the 8-1 passing the last NMC caused by a residual FP2). What a tense game!
2024-03-07(A) Matt Quinton vs James German winA little too conservative on the attack in the first few turns, put pressure on to move to the exit hexes in the last turn. The 88s had little effect - Germans set them both up HIP, and the first malfunctioned early (followed by a DM crew) and the second was placed right on the Southern edge so only had viable targets for a turn or two - and those targets were effectively trapped in a building.
2024-02-22(A) Alejandro Barreiro vs PabloB German win
2024-02-05(D) Tyler Forsythe vs Alan Hildebrandt German winGreat game, my first with the gun rules. Alan coached me to a close victory
2023-10-26(A) Andreas R vs Anders American win
2023-09-04(D) Justin DiSabatino vs Self German winThe 88s are really set up more to deter avenues of approach from the Americans than to effectively take advantage of their range, given the map. One set up center forward next to a German LMG nest effectively stopped the Turn 1 American advance, which would keep the center and eastern flank a non-starter for the Americans for the game. The main American thrust moved too cautiously in the face of the Germans (who set up the bulk of their force in the center of the western flank); the delay was costly as greatGerman rolls resulted in a lot of pins and regrouping.. By turn 3, it was clear timing would be tight, and an aggressive push each turn only got the Americans halfway by game end.
2023-08-01(A) Herve Duval vs In progress
2023-05-02(A) Andreas R vs Jenny American win
2022-11-10(A) Craig Renier vs Bob W American winThe first American force foolishly moved across the CA of a revealed 88 on Turn 1 and remained out of the fight for 2 more turns. The reinforcements moved significantly better, making steady progress through the village with the aide of numerous smoke grenades. However, the outcome remained in doubt as the Germans withdrew generally in good order. However, a key defender broke on the German left providing an important opening. Smoke was again favorable as the Americans made a move for the exits. The 2nd 88 was well placed, but lost ROF early leaving little for the defender to do as the Americans exited.
2022-10-02(D) Bob McKenna vs Robert Kroczynski American winAmericans turn German left flank. 88 s pound thr paratroopers with criticsl.hits. American roll box cars breaking bazooka and MMG. Americans overcome, re group and pin a key point of the ad hoc defense and rush to the bridge for the late win.. Lots of fun.
2022-09-21(A) Jack Wilson vs Bob T. American winPlayed Bob on VASL. This SK version is modeled after the ASL classic "Zon With the Wind." Very similar dynamics at play: Americans must overcome a modest screening force backed by two HIP 88s in order to exit at least 7VP off the edge--and do it all in 6 turns.

I managed to clear the center buildings and capture the two hills on the American right by about turn 4. Bob opened up with both 88s about then. I was lucky in that he mostly rolled high on his TH DRs, and when he did hit, I only lost one squad to breaking.

This was highly fortunate for me, as those 88s, once they score a hit, attack on the IFT with a 16 flat. If they make rate a few times, they can send a lot of units to medevac very quickly.

Once the 88s revealed themselves, the classic American FP zeroed in on the guns and I was able to silence the main gun holding me up on my right.

Very fun game, very much worth a replay.

BTW, we both had brain-cramps and overlooked the last sentence of rule 1.2.6 which points out that only small target guns and AT/INF guns that are not large targets can set up in buildings. That definitely limits the hiding places for the 88s. Why that sentence is not under 6.0 "Ordnance," I do not know. Another example of the hunt-and-peck-connect-the-dots-system of the SKRB.
2022-08-13(A) Dmitry Klyuykov vs Slava Zipunov American win

(VASL Log)
Americans cautiously advanced on the first two turns to find some weak spot in German defence. After breaking some German squads, paratroopers got on the hill and run all the way to the exit area, suffering some casualties from the guns.
2022-07-27(A) davide galloni vs Marco Bria American win
2022-07-09(A) Jim Liang vs David Wolff American win
2022-06-29(D) Raffaele Ianni vs Marco German win
2022-06-28(A) Alvaro Radigales vs German American winA very tense scenario presenting a number of difficulties for both sides. The American forces entering at the start have a lot of open ground to cover and are potentially badly outnumbered. Later reinforcements change this but the clock keeps ticking.

The Americans managed to exit the required VP by turn five, thanks among other things to a providential malfunction of one of the merciless German 88s.
2022-06-22(A) Craig Renier vs Jim Liang American winThe Germans set up their guns in an orchard on the center hill and in the road in the center of the village. The Americans sent two squads around the east side while the remainder of the paratroopers fought through the village. The flanking force ended up being only a minor distraction for the Germans. In the center, the defenders ably laid down residual complicating the American advance. However, smoke was the American friend this scenario, with very few failed rolls. When the 88 in the road malfunctioned followed by a squad with LMG in the O6 building breaking, the village route was nearly clear for the paratroopers to walk through. Once again, though, the Germans were able to place residual in key hexes slowing the advance. Part of the American flanking force was able to enter into CC against the 2nd 88 gun crew and stayed in Melee for two turns before finally winning, after being reduced. On the American final turn, the outcome was not yet decided. Again, smoke saved the American dash for the board edge. In the end, the Americans met the VCs and then some, despite a well played defense.
2022-06-21(D) Jim Liang vs Craig Renier American win
2022-04-19(A) Jack Wilson vs Ken Walsh German winKen and I played another small scenario involving a fairly hefty attacking force vs. an understrength defender with the attacker up against the clock and having to hustle to the exit hexes to beat the buzzer.
However, the most important advantage the German player has is the two hidden 88s lurking near the victory hexes.
For good or ill, I chose to pretty much ignore the big hill to the left and instead pushed through the village in the middle and along the smaller hills on the right.
I got to within a one-move-scamper to the victory hexes by the start of turn 5 with almost my entire force intact, and him down to 3 squads and a LMG.. Looked good for the GIs.
But I still had to get past the massive firepower of the 88s with their 16FP attack and 8RFP! Despite the fact that one of them Malf'ed (only to repair again on the final turn) I just could not get past them with enough VP to win.
The game came down to the last DF on the last turn. I ended up getting 5 VP across- 2 short.
I would probably tweak my attack plan if I played it again, but I think it was basically sound,
Ken played a masterful defense including using low crawling broken units to block crucial approach route hexes forcing me into the kill zones of his guns.
Another great game, and highly recommended.
2022-04-10(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs American win
2022-02-03(D) Artem Kalinovskii vs Anton Shishkin German win
2021-12-21(A) pierre vasad vs solo (2H) American winAmerican 1st wave was destroyed by one 88 on NE, but second wave and good dice on NW advance very fast to the exit through the streets. 88s in advanced positions useless after Turn 3.

2021-10-28(A) Alberto Pomar vs PezBailarin German win
2021-10-23(D) Louis Langdeau vs Rudy J German winLearning game for Rudy to figure out how guns and support weapons work. He was pretty cautious coming up to my troops, and I deployed fairly defensively with my troops up front and guns in back to cover the exit hexes. He ended up pushing almost all his troops down my left flank, but ceded the hilltop to me so I was able to redeploy fairly easily to cover. I also went on a couple pretty ludicrous ROF tears with my 88s, so by the time we hit his sixth turn, most of his troops were broken. My dice definitely helped out quite a bit, and Rudy also picked the wrong flank to push down (unbeknownst to him) since I set my 88s up to cover my left more than I covered the right. Still, an enjoyable game, and lots of time to explain some of the finer points of ASLSK.
2021-07-11(D) Jim Liang vs David Wiesenhahn German winHuman Wave 2021 - Americans exited one squad and 9-1 for 4 VP during Movement Phase of last turn. Only the 10-2 was left. If he could exit off the map, the Americans would win, but not today. German defensive fire was particularly deadly during last turn. Only two broken American half-squads remained by game end.
2021-07-11(A) David Wiesenhahn vs Jim Liang German win
2021-07-10(A) Mark Thompson vs Heloanjn (Germans) German winNail biter that came down to the wire. Americans broke one 88 crew and pinned the other and got 4 VP off-board but CX'ing Capt. Winters stack chose to avoid 8 residual from the 88s in dash to edge, took the long way around that exposed it to more shots, and pinned one MF from exit.
2021-07-02(A) David Garvin vs Nick Faryna American winFriday night ASL!
2021-04-17(D) Gleb Paskevich vs Fedor Melnikov German win
2021-01-25(A) Owen Edwards vs Solitaire German winThe most important thing, in retrospect, is realizing I misread the VCs and gave the US the entire board-edge to exit from - but they still lost. Quite tight and interesting until US Turn 5, when a large group of US Paras sought to exit from the "top" edge of the board (row p or so). Three different stacks moving vs essentially 4 shots (3 x normal, 1 x RFP) - the Germans rolled 4 or lower on everything, with one hex of smoke in place. One squad and a leader got through for 4 VP, the other leader and a squad were killed, the final squad was broken and routed back to the buildings, and did not rally. A desperate dash from a support column in US turn 6 was, inevitably, broken, though it survived a few of the many shots it had to face.

Interesting scenario, the 88s were fun to use (and fun to neutralise). Need to replay another time with the right VCs.
2021-01-20(A) Igor Luckyanov vs Igor Stolyarenko American win
2021-01-20(D) Igor Stolyarenko vs Igor Lukyanov American winAggressive tactics didn't help
2020-09-24(D) Scott Fischbein vs Craig Renier German winVery enjoyable game! Craig did a great job of pushing forward with his stalwart Americans, but had bad luck with smoke, while I had some excellent morale roles, including one squad that declined to break at least 7+ times! Still, he managed to come pretty close to getting the job done, exiting 5 pts worth of units. Good scenario for enforcing the need to keep moving!
2020-09-23(A) Craig Renier vs Scott Fischbein German winThe American player came up just short in the final turn. Despite not using Prep Fire the entire game, missed routing opportunities and one hesitant turn left the Americans with too much open ground to get a victory.
2020-09-20(A) David Garvin vs Loic Gourdon American winLoic had a pretty good set up, though maybe I would have had the 88s in a different spot. Still, a dice roll one way or the other and he wins.
2020-09-13(A) Craig Renier vs Bill Burtt German winAmericans made steady progress, but began to break in Turn 4. The German 88s were emplaced on woods hexes on the exit side. On the final turn one 88 retained rate and was able to break enough of the American force to attain a win.
2020-09-10(A) Jonathan Plott vs Craig Renier German winThe Americans had significant issues just getting on to the board; my opponent Craig R did a great job of breaking a number of my units as they tried to get organized in their assembly areas, and my DRs (today, at least) were such that units broken in Turn 1 in some cases stayed broken until turn 3. The Yanks tried forcing the center, and got rebuffed; they tried forcing the western flank and got stalled. By the time the Americans were able to reorganize a force of any strength, it was already turn 3. By Turn 4, the paratroopers were able to get some movement to the south, but it was too little, too late...the German defenses were able to completely stop any Americans reaching the victory conditions. Congratulations, Craig!
2020-09-01(D) Dave Mareske vs Craig Renier German winSwitched sides and played again. 88s had some good hits and the Americans could not dislodge one 4-6-7 and his LMG, which became a problem in exiting. Highlight was an American CH with a BZK on one of the 88s!
2020-08-21(A) Dave Mareske vs Craig Renier American winThe Americans moved in on the west side, got some key SMOKE placements and made some early key morale checks. Able to easily avoid one of the 88s and the other one MALFed on turn four giving the victory to the Americans.
2020-08-16(A) David Garvin vs Brian McKinley American win
2020-06-21(D) Kevin Sanders vs Jon Plott German winVery good luck on 1st set of roles by Germans caught both US leaders and a few squads on the 1st 2 turns.
Not much luck for the US, stalled advance ended in an early concede,,,,Germans were lucky
2020-06-20(A) Jonathan Plott vs Kevin Sanders German win
2020-06-11(A) Kevin Sanders vs Seb Vitry American winSlug fest that the US was loosing due to great 88 coverage and rate. Finally US gets a break on last couple turn and have exactly enough VPs to try for exit in range...no more or less. Winning VPs survived 2 shot attempts (1 miss, 1 intensive fire hit) from 88 to exit and force the last turn, last shot win....lucky but will take it. Well played German defense.
2020-06-01(D) Macari Samuel vs Seb Vitry German winAfter a catastrophic first round, the Americans found themselves grouped together, trapped in the buildings, with no other possibility than to try to escape enemy fire. An clear victory for the Germans who suffered no loss.
2020-05-29(D) Kevin Sanders vs Seb Vitry German winGreat scenario. Poor looses for US early cost the game. Did go to the last turn and the US almost squeaked out the VPs needed but pinned 1 hex away.
2020-04-12(A) Kevin Sanders vs Derek Dunn American winWhen to the last trun - US units running like made to try for the exits - 88s pounding away leaving 8 Residual all over the exits. Death of a US unit to 2 RFP....good game lots learnt
2020-03-18(A) O Ramaille vs Macari Samuel German winAn excellent German setup and shot performance hampered the pincer-like American attack. The 88s revealed very soon and were efficient in disorganizing the Americans. Despite good leaders, MMG fire was unable to silent those guns. The Geman defenders withdraw efficiently and broke several US squads. With the few forces left, the Americans tried a dash to the exit but were cut down by the strong German firepower left.
2020-03-18(D) Macari Samuel vs O Ramaille German winA really good scenario.
2020-02-12(A) Jonathan Plott vs Gary Bartlett German winLast FtF game before lockdown.
2019-12-21(D) Jacob Elmqvist vs Ingemar Gardell German win
2019-12-11(A) Dmitry Klyuykov vs Fedor Grachev German winLooks like balanced scenario, our games was decided at the very last roll, which for me means, it's a good one.
2019-10-20(A) Pascal Boileau vs Philippe Briaux German win
2019-10-12(A) Jonathan Kapleau vs Cusick, John American win
2019-10-12(A) David Garvin vs Ray Saulnier American win
2019-10-12(A) Vilis Pavulans vs Steven Steward German winVery intense game. Is recorded on YouTube among VASLing with Stews videos. Painful ending..

2019-01-01(A) davide galloni vs Alle American win
2018-11-05(D) Tom Abromaitis vs Travis Crowe German winToo much prep fire meant the Americans had too much to do on the last turn.
2018-05-29(D) David Garvin vs Amanda Boles German win
2018-02-24(A) Jonathan Kapleau vs Cohen, Dave American win
2017-12-01(A) Jeff B vs Andrea Rhoss American winAmericans did their best to completely avoid both 88s and approached in force from the northwest. By the end of Turn 3 all German infantry (except the two crews) were either broken or dead. Turn 4 saw the Americans bravely scatter to take on the one 88 that stood between them and victory, but the Germans must have felt further defense was futile at this point as they threw up the white flag.
2017-09-24(A) Vic Lauterbach vs EL American winThis is ZON WITH THE WIND without concealment, snipers or trenches but a good defensive tutorial and fun for both sides. The up front defense didn't work as one US platoon took out both crews while the 9-2 directed squad with MMG broke the key German positions on GT5 allowing the 8-1 and three squads to exit. The 88s need to cover the exit hexes from H1 and J1. You can play this one twice in an afternoon. As always in an SK scenario, several HoB DRs went unused!
2017-07-25(D) Louis Langdeau vs Reid C German winPhew! Close one. My 88s didn't do much in this. One had the crew get murdered by a good shot early on, and the other malfed on its second shot of the game and never recovered. That being said, the rest of my troops performed admirably, falling back to lock Reid's troops out of the exit. Reid had a few bad melees as well that went on for far too long, and I managed to brick him on the last turn.
2017-07-09(A) Seumas Hoskins vs Dean American winDean setup his 88s a bit too far forward on the hills and didnt realize the Americans enter at two different points on the map. Americans zipped under the LOS of the guns and rushed into the exit point.
2017-06-15(A) Greg Krane vs Solo German winWinters wounded on the first turn! O the Drama!
2017-06-06(A) Greg Krane vs Solo German winLast minute 1FP resid fire snake eyes broke the last American half squad I needed to obtain the needed VP's. Great small scenario!!
2017-01-04(A) David Garvin vs Craig Stark American win
2016-11-19(A) Michael Dorosh vs Colin Emerson German winTried this one with full ASL rules (less SAN, EC, etc.) German benefited from setting up concealed, so probably didn't play out fully as it would in ASLSK. Still, lots of shooting and hidden gun action.
2016-11-19(D) Colin Emerson vs Michael Dorosh German winPlayed this SK scenario using concealment, which really threw the balance off, probably slowed the Americans down by 3 turns. Was also fortunate enough to have 2 squads really slow down the 2nd American group. Last turn saw Americans trying to run through my goal line stand. German win. Our unbalancing made the scenario too short for the Americans.

2015-03-21(A) O Ramaille vs Valkiem American winThe first american forces entered up hill and soon discovered a german 88 AA gun waiting for them. They quickly silenced it and attract the german fires to them. Meanwhile, the major force crossed the village and dislodged the week german resistance. The major german forces were up hill and theratened by some american fires. they were unable to prevent the US paratroopers to exit the map and win the game.
2015-03-16(A) O Ramaille vs German American winThe US advance was slow in the village with scattered German troops defending. At the exit of the village, the 88s fired and destroyed a few units. The Americans then rushed to exit the city as one of the gun was malfunctioning. Several paratroopers were pinned or routed but eventually thye US leader, one squad and two half-squads exited safely, just enough to win the game.

2012-10-27(A) O Ramaille vs German winThe 88s remain hidden in the woods south of town whereas the german soldiers were scattered in town to slow the US progression. This tactic proved a success as the US get only 1 turn to exit and get VPs. But, at this time the 88s awoke and prevent the paratroopers to exit. Only one squad was successful because one of the gun malfunctioned.

2011-02-23(A) O Ramaille vs American winPlayed 88s at Zon twice. Twice the american won. There is not much placement availability for the guns. They are exposed fairly quickly. Precise shots from the paratroopers can silent the guns definetely.
