Overview:
The battle of the Five Hills had ended. With no tactical value in retaining a toehold on Champs Elysees any longer, the Vietminh began withdrawing during the pre-dawn hours of 4 April. The French commanders realized this by the afternoon. Strong patrols were dispatched to 'recon' the eastern face of Champs Elysees.
