Overview:

After a long night of struggling to secure little more than a tentative hold on the north bank of the Psel, the Totenkopf's Panzer Regiment received ordered to expand the bridgehead and explore the Russian defensive positions in the region. Unbeknownst to them, the reinforced 95th Guards Rifle Division was moving into positions overlooking the village of Krasny Oktabyr. As the Germans moved up from the river's edge, the two forces collided under a summer squall, mutual surprise giving way to ferocious fighting.
Attacker: Russian (95th Guards Rifle Division; 178th Tank Brigade)

2023-08-17(D) Jeff B vs John Fedoriw Russian win5.75 hrsAnother broken scenario from the HB pack. Russians enter Level 3 hill hexes having spent half their MPs, without any allowance for offboard terrain being an extension of the play area. Yeah...not gonna happen. So we played as if they entered from mirrored Level 3 locations. Getting some firsthand experience why people say playing CH scenarios is like playtesting. And don't let the Russians moving first fool you; this is a complete German attack again since the Russians enter so near 3/5 of the VC areas. With a skulkable sloped woods able to see down onto the Level 2 hill the German approach will be extremely difficult. It also didn't help I misread the setup instructions about having to be mounted and in motion. I got the jump start on making it around the west and managed to blast an SU-152. But my Panther which did so was ganged up on by almost all remaining Russians tanks and eliminted next turn, followed shortly by a Tiger. I then took out two T-34s, but lost my last Tiger in the process. The next turn saw a 2:1 trade in my favor, and we were both getting low on vehicles. I then consolidated my units for a last turn push for the westernmost VC hex, but he was able to almost entirely ring it with units. My last two tanks were popped during the assault, and most of my infantry repulsed, but I was able to have one hero survive with a chance to take out the sole tank guarding the hex. Of course this low-odds attack didn't work and it was game. We were planning to play through this whole pack, but we both felt enough was enough and relegated this one to the scrap heap.
2011-10-02(A) nathan wegener vs Albert W Russian winReally enjoyed this one. A great taste of Kursk in a small package. My T-34's got good rolls and took out the PzIVs as his Tigers slowly picked them off. The SU's stayed on the hill out of site to defend the rush. The Tigers had to rush the hill to win and the SU's came thru and picked them off.
